Blog Tour: The Rockstar Trilogy by Mercy Amare

Welcome to my stop on Mercy Amare's Rockstar Trilogy blog tour, celebrating the release of the final book in the trilogy!  I have a review of Book 1, Jaded, along with information about all three books and a giveaway.

Jaded (Book 1)
Author: Mercy Amare
Genre: Mature YA Contemporary
Summary:
I'm Scarlett Ryan.

Yes, THAT Scarlett Ryan.

I live an extraordinary life: millionaire rock star, owner of exotic cars, pictures of me in every magazine, millions of fans, and a name that is recognized world wide. It's supposed to be my dream come true. But, my life IS a fantasy, and I want real. I want exciting. I want... NORMAL. So, I moved from California to Florida, hoping to obtain some normalcy. Instead I find...

Stephan Montgomery.

He's an arrogant jerk. Seriously, I hate him. I swear if he tells me one more blonde joke, I will punch him... again... Unfortunately I can't stop thinking about him, or his gorgeous green eyes. Trust me, I know that he's bad for me. If only my heart would listen.

I also find out that my parents have kept a LIFE CHANGING secret from me. I need to know the truth.

The harder I strive for normal, the stranger things seem to get.

Jaded Excerpt:

“We have so much chemistry that we're literally smoking,” I smile. “And it's only a matter of time before we erupt.”
He clears his throat. “I'm kind of looking forward to this eruption. Think it will happen any time soon?”
“Stephan,” I swat my hand at his arm gently. “You are so bad.”
“Maybe, but you know you want me.”
“Oh, I do want you, but it's so much more fun to make you wait.” I laugh. “Besides, I'm waiting until we're in love.”
“Augh, the L word again.” He shakes his head, as if he can will the word to go away.
“Why are you so against love?” I ask.
“I'm not against love. I just think that love is a serious word. I have never told a girl that I love her, and I want it to mean something. I want the one and only girl I say it to, to be my wife.”
And right there, I lost my heart... to a boy named Stephan Montgomery.

My Review

I want to begin this review with my one caveat about Jaded: this is not necessarily the most realistic story out there.  The novel’s main character is a super-successful nineteen-year-old pop/rock star who decides to take a break from her career, move to a small town and finally finish high school—in an actual high school, instead of with a tutor on a tour bus.  In addition to the celebrity aspect, there are a few other very dramatic reveals during the course of the novel.  So yeah, maybe not the most realistic, believable plot out there.  That said, this book was a ton of fun and so addictive, I didn’t want to put it down.  (Except for the ending, which wasn’t fun—it was cruel and painful and I need book two RIGHT NOW!  But I’m getting ahead of myself…)

Jaded is told in pop star Scarlett Ryan’s candid, appealing voice.  Scarlett has the problems you’d expect a young celebrity to be dealing with: parents who seem more concerned with her career than her happiness, a record label that won’t let her express herself through her music, and the temptation of partying and drugs.  However, what really made Scarlett’s situation unique for me, and made me feel for her the most, was the fact that she’d completely lost contact with her older sister and wanted desperately to reconnect with her.  At its core, this book is really about Scarlett’s need to forge connections on a personal level, rather than as a celebrity with fans and hangers-on.

And that brings me to my favorite relationship in the book…Scarlett’s romance with high-school student Stephan Montgomery, who also happens to be her neighbor in her new home of Hope, Florida.  I LOVED Stephan.  He’s got a bad-boy appeal to him—his hobby is illegal street racing, Fast and Furious-style—but he’s also really sweet, thoughtful and sincere.  Actually, I really liked pretty much all the characters in Jaded, but I don’t want to say too much about most of them, or about the plot, for fear of spoiling some of those dramatic reveals I mentioned earlier!

Even though Jaded wasn’t always completely believable, by the end of the story I was completely emotionally invested, and the end just devastated me!  I’m so glad the sequel’s already out, and I will be reading it as soon as possible!

Faded (Book 2)
Author: Mercy Amare
Genre: Mature YA Contemporary
Summary:
I left Hope – the only place I’ve ever felt at home. So now what? Where do I go from here?

When I left, I didn’t just leave my home. I left my friends, my sisters, and Stephan… I just found them. I can’t lose them now.

I know that I want to do MY music. I need to remember WHY I wanted to play music in the first place. And the only way to get that is by firing my dad, but that may be harder than I thought.

On top of everything, I now have cameras following me around everywhere. Even my own home isn’t safe anymore.

I’ve come to realize that normal will never be an option for me.

Faded Excerpt:

He pulls out a costume. “I could be Iron Man.”
I crinkle my nose. “No way. Thor is way cooler of a superhero.”
“He’s not a superhero. He’s a god. There is a difference,” Stephan quickly replies.
“Whatever. I really don’t care. He’s a mythical creature either way. He can be whoever the fuck I want him to be.” I shake my head.
“What are you going as?” Stephan asks.
“Who cares?” I laugh and decide to quote Mean Girls. “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.” I pause then say, “I was thinking slutty zombie.”
“I think I’m going to like your costume,” Stephan says quickly. “And I will totally let you bite me.”
Only you could think about sex during the zombie apocalypse,” I joke.
“Well somebody is going to have to repopulate the earth. It’s a rough job, but I think I’m up for the challenge.” He puts his arm around my shoulder and starts walking me to the door. “In fact, we better get started now.”
I remove his arm from around my shoulder. “Right. You get started without me. I’m just going to grab my costume.”
